Themed units

The Themed Units for National Reading Day were designed around 4 broad themes. They were designed to 'fit' with a range of books - fact and fiction, print and screen. There are a number of suggestions in each of the activities for sharing these were suggestions only.

The 4 themes are listed below - the suggested activities for each school level focus on skills and understandings appropriate for the age group within that theme:

Conservation and Regeneration

Exploring Genre

Health and Wellbeing

Personal Relationships

Activities have been designed around each of the themes for Early Primary, Middle Primary and Upper Primary/Junior Secondary. The activities have been kept deliberately broad so that teachers can interpret them as appropriate for their own classrooms and students.
