National Reading Day September 2nd 2009

A Story Sharing Safari

Why not join with schools all around Australia and take your students on a Story Sharing Safari on National Reading Day on Wednesday September 2nd?

National Reading Day is a key event of National Literacy/Numeracy Week and this year is celebrated on Wednesday, September 2nd 2009. On National Reading Day you are invited to extend on the Book Week Theme (Book Safari) and take a Story Sharing Safari. It does not have to be complicated!

Before National Reading Day:
  • Extend on the activities and themes you explored during Children's Book Week
  • Plan a gathering for friends, family and community that celebrates one of the themes of the books
On National Reading Day:
  • This is the day your Story Sharing Safari will culminate! Spend time doing what’s important - celebrate by reading together, sharing stories and listening to the stories of others. Your whole Story Sharing Safari could include parents, local community groups or others across the country - why not beam them into your classroom and share your stories with them?
After National Reading Day:
  • Enter the major prize draw by using the online form to tell us about your activities
  • Share your day through your own website, and provide a link for publication on the Your Stories page so others can visit your site
